It's a common transformation in Caribbean Spanish, and also in Andalusian.
In some dialects of the latter, the [h] disappears as well, and vowel-final
[s] is realized by a change in the vowel only:  /es/ > /E/, /os/ > /O/,
/as/ > [&].
