Actually, my reading in Spanish dialectology led me to believe that it
was a word-boundary thing: word-final /n/ is pronounced [N] to help
speakers identify word-boundaries in rapid speech.
However, I think there are instances of vowels conditioning the previous
consonants, though none come to mind.
