First of all, welcome to conlang! I wish I had this when I was 15, a couple
years after I began dabbling in made-up words....

I too need a conlang for a race of "trolls" (actually surviving members of the
species _homo erectus_); I'm thinking of a rudimentary auxlang-like mix of
English and French with a minimalist phonology and grammar. The Trolls have no
native language; they adopted it from humans, as much as a hominid race with an
average IQ of 50-60 is able. And while they learn speech slowly, they don't live
long, maybe 40-ish years on average.

(This is the opposite of Exian, the language of the Elves -- who are really
angels or djinn in human-like form -- they have exceptional intelligence and
longetivity.)
