Not really.
The most important language in this group is Arabic. Many Arabs consider
the whole thing to be a conspiracy engineered by the Americans in order to
have an opportunity to play with military hardware. Crazy, but there you
go.
Other languages which include that root include Maltese, possibly Hebrew,
and Pashtun. In most of these, the core meaning is beg/pray, and has
nothing to do with study.
Of course, teh Maltese for student is, uh, student.
