Quite. You have
English: *stain > *sta:n > *stO:n > sto:n > stOun > st@Un
German: *stain > *stEin > Staen
There is also Swedish: *stain > *stEin > ste:n
Thou Icelandic is much funkier: *stainz > *stEin: > stEit_n
Then there is also
English: *mi:n > *m@in > maIn
German: *mi:n > *mein > maen
Just to confuse things...
