I only found out about this a few hours ago.  I rarely watch tv and so heard
nothing till I got to work today.  My little 7th graders were trying to tell
me about it in their first-year conversational English.  It took me quite a
while to figure out that *something* really awful had happened in New York.
At lunch I went on the internet and found out what had happened.  I am in
shock and for the first time I feel alone here in Taiwan.

My mother had emailed me and asked me to call.  She and all the workers in
downtown Dallas were sent home.  This is all rather surreal to me at the
moment.  I feel quite seperated and cut off.
