I'm not John and my Salishan collection was sold when I turned away from Northwest Coast lgs but my recollection is that BC has at least phonemic schwa and a lot of phonetic epenthetic vowels. Similarly, there is evidence, mostly unpublished, that Wakashan (at the proto-level) had no more /a/ with, if memory serves, 12 phonetic vowels determined by a complex set of insertion rules. -- Brad Coon bcoon@imt.net PLEASE NOTE,NEW EMAIL ADDRESS If its tourist season, why can't we shoot them?
