Then again, I also remember the line "...flocks and herds of the Greeks..."
so evidently the victims also included cows. At any rate the animal Ajax
thought was Odysseus was a sheep, which he accordingly strapped to a post and
beat the hell out of.
Maybe "cattle" can be used for both?
