'z' is lamino-alveolar and 's' is apico-alveolar. Some dialects have lost
this distinction, tho.
It just so happens that in Icelandic 's' is apico-alveolar and 'þ' (thorn)
is lamino-alveolar, so I guess Anglophones may cheat by pronouncing Basque
'z' as a dental fricative...
