It means "level out", and I took it straight from Latin in a jocular
mood, on the assumption that *any* Latin word is a potential English
word, to translate the German _Gleichschalten_.  Perhaps "phase" is a
better word?  It should probably be "exequate", however, since the
correct Latin is _exaequare_.
