The motto is still valid (though it's an unwritten rule) in Dutch pubs. It
is implicitely forbidden to talk about politics and religion there, even
today :) .

Well, our motto may better be "no cross, no crown, no green star" to
include the prohibition to talk about IAL politics (the green star
referring of course to Esperanto, and by extension to all IALs - I know,
maybe too wild an extension, but if the cross can refer to all religions in
this motto, why not? ;))) ). And note that I specified "IAL *politics*".
IALs themselves are nothing wrong :)) .
