Wow, that's one of my brother's most hated consonants too.
He calls it "that damn Chinese {X} sound" because of a Berlitz book we
found at a friend's house once.
I like it though, and made /C/ the reflex of original /x/ in my Unnamed
(and undeveloped) Semitic Conlang.
