I've sown the transcription [E@], like in "care" in Brithish dictionaries= or pronunciation guides as a diphtong always occurring when there is an "r" (which would be transcribed usually, in American dictionaries, as a rothicised @, (/R/ in Kirshenbaum, "right-hook schwa" in IPA)). If you transcribe a Close-mid central unrounded vowel ("reversed e"), I f= ound that Kirshenbaum uses /@/ (same as schwa) and SAMPA uses /@\/ Or do you pronounce "can" (recipient) as "care".
