Subject: Re: Vocab #4
Note: No versions given of various cries, noises and so on!

1. Eite a lauskatselde na
[eite: there are numerous words for 'knife'; eite refers to a small stabbing
implement like a dagger.] [a: that one] [lauska-tse-lde: rabbit-diminutive
suffix-dative case] [Aux 3ps]
Notes: (a) Possession is indicated by the form 'there is an x to y'
 (b) The modifier -ska is used to denote 'something with a certain
characteristic' so lauska (from laba, 'ear' means 'the one with the ears'
and is in fact used of both rabbits and hares.

2. In berku sertede. Eria dindina na.
[here] [see!] [ferret-my]. [to like] [dancing][Aux 3ps]
Notes: (a) The idiomatic construction 'in berku' is used quite frequently
when indicating something near at hand, introducing somebody, and so on.
 (b) No word for 'ferret' so I have transposed the sound to the nearest
Omeina equivalent, seret- which would metathesise to serte- in speech, since
words can end only in a vowel or -n, -l, and occasionally r.
 (c) Several different words for 'dancing', but dindi- means 'to dance up
and down, caper', etc., so is probably the sort of dancing a ferret would
do.

3. Lauskatse eitio duna angainalde nadi.
[bunny] [knife-comitative case] [come] [for the hurting] [Aux.3ps+1po]

4. A bentsete gamoi aneta na.
[that-one] [ben-tse-ergative case: No word for 'alien' in the sense of "ET"
so use ben- 'other, different' plus -tse modifier] [eat-interrogative]
[person-group] [Aux 3ps]

5. Lauskate eitio sirke larde mundudenen na.
[rabbit-erg] [knife-comitative] [cut-intensifier] [arm-my]
[body-my-ablative] [Aux.3ps]
Notes: (a) Sirke is from the root sir- 'cut through', here with the
intensive marker -he, which appears as -ke for both historical and
phonological reasons.

6. Atseku! Luraminaste gurakin da!
[help-imperative] [bloodlessness-instrumental] [die-durative] [Aux.1ps]
Notes: (a) Lura-me-ina 'blood-without-ness'

7. Lauska dunade diro na.
[rabbit] [come-re] [to-me][Aux.3ps]
Notes: (a) Dunade is 'to come again'; the conjugated preposition diro
strengthens the idea that the rabbit is coming 'for me'.

8. Ben larde sirke na!
[other] [arm-my][cut off][Aux.1ps]

9. A lauska rungu maida!
[that-one] [rabbit] [crush, pulverise] [Aux.intend-1ps]

10. Lauskate sirke daudiade na. Berku uite lina luren!
[rabbit-erg] [cut off] [leg-dual-my][Aux.3ps]. [Look at!] [pretty-little]
[pool] [blood-genitive case]
