Interesting Story

I just read an interesting SF story, Story of Your Life, by Ted
Chiang, in The Year's Best Science Fiction (16th ed, 1998), which has
a conlang angle to it. In the story, aliens come to Earth and the
protagonist, a linguist, is enlisted to learn their language. Turns
out that the aliens don't see the world sequentially, but as a
whole. Their spoken language is of necessity sequential, but their
written language is not. As the linguist learns the written
language, her own worldview begins to change. Very interesting
take on Whorf-Sapir, physics and free will!
