I wonder whether you have looked at the SIL Shoebox program? I am not
too enamoured of the Summer Institute of Linguistics myself, but the
later versions of Shoebox are _very_ good. Of course, it does a whole
lot more than just enabling you to maintain a lexicon - it might
even be overkill. It has just one fault - it isn't available in a
Unix version...
Just imagine - a Unix version of Shoebox, based on a real database like
PostGresSQL - it could have all sorts of front-ends, from web to character
to X based. As soon as I've finished my current pet-project, I'm going
to try for it.
