I had a Spanish professor a couple of semesters ago who had the harshest
/x/ sound i had heard. Everyone in class would always imitate him when we
repeated words he was teaching us with that sound. At first it got a lot
of smiles when we all first heard it.
For me oldhabits die hard, so i always pronounce my j's and g's before i
or e as /h/ as all of my other Spanish professors do (they were mostly
Mexican, or Central American)
