This really kind of chaffes, to tell the truth. Instead of asking what my
obviously confusing message (I know where I went wrong, after a little
thought: the saying "to assume makes an ass out of you and me" is a play
on the spelling of assume ass-u-me, something a nonnative speaker of
English -- or even many native speakers -- might not understand right
away, and if you're not a native speaker of English, that explains it) you
went off immediately into a flame. For some reason I tend to draw this
kind of fire -- even when I qualify myself with emoticons up the wazoo.
Social defect, I guess, or perhaps I rely too heavily on intonation to
point up my irony in speech.
I really have no intention -- no desire! -- to get into a flame war.
They're childish, and I refuse to play, so let's be nice to each other, if
we can. You mistook my meaning (as it wasn't directed at you being
friendless, but the conlangophobe) and my feelings of being imposed upon
by your misunderstanding and foolish. So let's play nice.
