Actually, in my opinion the issue is that English doesn't have an unambiguous 2sg. There are unambiguous 2pl's, though they vary from dialect to dialect: youguys /yugaiz/ (mine) yous/youse/yas y'all are all unambiguously 2pl But "you" can be 2sg or 2pl.
