OK. If smbody is interested to know school system in such an exotic country like
Ukraine, here it is (sidenote: traditional English name for schoolyears in the
[post]-Soviet space is "form", not "grade"):
Starting at age 6:
Forms 1-4: elementary (lit. "primary") school
Forms 5-8: basic school
Forms 9-11(12): secondary (lit. "middle") school.
All this is complulsory. In Secondary school you may take optional courses
("facultatives").

After that you can have either trade training in a "PTU" (trade school) or
"technicum" (college) -- this is "secondary specialized" education (and most of
this may be taken just after the Basic school); or search for a more
sophisticated profession going to "institute" (another kind of college, only
after the Secondary school), "university" or "academy". -- this is "high
school". State-owned "high schools" are free. The system is now trying to get
adapted to the Western requirements, so older "diplomas" are being displaced by
degrees:
- specialist (after most technicums);
- bachelor (after some technicums or an institute or 4 years in a uni);
- master (after a university - 5/6 years + a research paper) [in the older times
*this* was called "specialist", and I'm here].
To get "candidate of science" and "doctor of science", you need to cooperate
with special departments of universities ("aspiranture" and "doctoranture")
where you need to make individual research.
