In my (Australian) dialect, /IN/ is not only permissable, but the only way
I've heared ~ing pronounced. In fact, is so permissable that ~ing (which
according to the sound change unstressed /I/>/@/ would be pronounced /@N/)
is pronounced /IN/. The only strange thing that /N/ does is diphthongise /&/
(& is ae-lig, isn't it?) into /&i/, so 'hang' is pronounced as if it where
spelt 'hangue'
And yes, I am a newbe here.
