Just out of professional curiosity, Nik, did you mean
1.) you informally copied the therapist's own dialect
(which, I take it, was different from the surrounding
dialect)?
2.) you were formally taught to speak that way
in therapy (even though it was not like the dialect
of the speakers among whom you lived)?
Why I ask, is that, as far as I was taught, speech therapy is supposed
to make a client's speech conform _more_ to the norms of the
his speech community, not _less_!
