Maybe it's a Mediterranean thing (hence the southern, but not northern,
Italians). Jews are also known for 'speaking with their hands'. In a
linguistics class i took last semester, we had to give presentations and
the other students would critique each other's presentations. One of the
sheets i got back said i had 'violent arm motions' ;) .
