Just a thought: Did you try searching for Old Castilian?
The Spanish Colonial period followed right after the Reconquista ---
Columbus landed 284 days after Granada fell --- and though Castile and
Aragon had been in personal union for 33 years at that point, I'm not
sure that the Spanish themselves thought of Spain as a linguistic or
political unit at that time.
