I was answering specifically to that indeed :) . I don't have an example at hand (no time to check my notes), but I'm pretty sure you find words with an unpronounced 's' which doesn't tense the following consonant, or with an unpronounced 'g' which doesn't lengthen the vowel of the next syllable. The problem is to diagnose correctly those cases in an orthography that doesn't seem to care about representing actual pronunciation ;)) .
