More likely, the reason they didn't decimalise
the time system was that they had no need to. It was invented for
scientific use, with everyday use not the main priority. In science,
it doesn't matter whether the day is 86,400 seconds or 100,000
seconds, seeing normally the length of the day doesn't matter.
