Firefox doesn't need the font tag, but it seems to be necessary for IE.

Those show up as plain text in Thunderbird. But I can copy them from
Character Map.
Oddly, the first character ends up looking like a lowercase v, but the
second one appears correct. I still wonder if Microsoft might be
reserving some of the characters in this range. I'll try some of the
other characters from this font.
-- looks fine.
-- also looks fine.
-- these all look okay.
But none of the characters from U+F000 to U+F009 work.
