Graphite.
This is true. Font making is an art in itself. I've toyed with a
few different font programs over the years but even the simplest
font can take a lot of time if you want it to look good. I really
haven't messed around much with ligatures and varations, but the
bigges chore seems to be to get the line weight right so the font
will render well in all sizes.
