Well, both 'ideogram' and 'pictogram' both say too little, implying that each
zi4 is a picture or direct representation of an idea, which isnt generally true.
'logogram' implies that each zi4 is a word in itself, which is saying a bit too
much, because compound words do exist, e.g. hua1sheng1 "peanut" [ex. stolen from
Describing Morphosyntax... hopefully I got the tone nums right].
The zi4, as far as I'm given to understand, are simply morphemes, so
morphograph/morphogram would probably be the best way...?
