That's exactly one of the options you can choose from during the Latin
import phase. To prevent hiatus, the .sch file provides the option to
either use an epenthetic glide (*eo: > *ejo:) or to shift accent to
produce a valid diphthong in PN (*eo: > *jo:). (Both shifts do occur
in the PG > ON phase, and the shifts are unstable: some words still
have duplicate forms in Modern Icelandic.) Now, the first one results
in *ija which I would certainly correct to become 'ja:', and the
second one comes out as 'jo:'. I went for 'ja:', since a) I like it
better, b) *ego: > *jaga > *ja: gives the same result.
