Odors were far more intense as a child (men lose some
acuity around puberty; odd, now that I think of it).
Buckminster Fuller used to say that voices got lost
"in the high squeekies" as he got older. Etc.
Thanks to memory, we do notice these things ...
There was a song, "Yellow Days (Golden Days)",
but that seems to run counter to the hypothesis.
