Hmm. In the liberal arts it's gone, gone, goneski. In fact, we encourage
people to use I now, and I run into it in everything written after, say,
1985 or so.
Sometimes, I even run into little paragraphs describing the author's life
history, sexual habits, and pet rat. I think that sort of confesionalism
is swinging a bit far the other way, but then it's an artifact of
deconstruction which I, being a New Critic, rather dislike.
