Generally, it uses the vowel with an upside-down breve underneath it. This is also used sometimes for /j/ and /w/ (my Spanish phonology book actually distinguishes between /j/ and /i/ with the diacritic though). -- Eric Christopherson / *Aiworegs Ghristobhorosyo
