Though this has not always been the case. And, to bring things 'round to conlang-related thigns, was clearly not the case in Tolkein's works, since the summer solstice is called Midsummer's Day, not Beginsummer's Day. :) Also, the Dwarvish calendar is tied to the first moon of autumn which is clearly not the first moon after the autumn equinox. I think it makes more sense to regard the solstices and equinoxes as the middles of their respective seasons, although that doesn't seem to be the way autumn works with respect to the Dwarvish calendar either. -Mark
