Just out of curiousity, are there any natlangs that are base-8?

Nik Taylor replied:
I've heard of one spoken by a tribe in, IIRC, Oregon.

I (Tommie Powell) respond:
That's right, the Chinooks. It was also in the Chinook/Nootkan/Salish
trade language used in most of Oregon, Washington and British Columbia
for hundreds of years before European traders came and corrupted it.
And it's the sort of base-8 system that Peter uses (1-8, not 0-7).
