Actually, English isn't completely base ten. We also have the dozen, the
gross and the great gross which are all base 12. Indeed one of the websites
I listed is for the dozenal society of Great Britain. They felt that the
word "duodecimal" consisting as it does of two parts meaning two and ten
was not suited to describing the system since dozen only has the idea of 12.
There is also the "score" =20 although this seems to have almost passed out
of use, it was certainly used in counting historically.
