i push him up =3D i push & he (goes) up =3D transitive verb + intransitive v= erb i go up the stairs =3D i go & (i am) up the stairs =3D intransitive verb +=20 transitive verb "up" is like many english verbs : you know they're transitive when... there'= s=20 an object after them :-) i find English very handy.
