I think in most of Slavonic languages the neutral word order is SVO. However the personal endings of verbs allows you usually to omit the subject if it's known from the context. It becames VSO mostly in order to stress the verb - for example to emphasise the duration of an action (imperfective verbs) or its completeness (perfective verbs). -- Lukasz K.
