One of the first things I did for the conculture of the Saalangal was to
create a national flag for them.
The major pattern of the flag is based off of the textile woven by the
ruling family, Talambe (means shark). Each family has it's own textile
design. The house of Talambe are the main rulers of the nation because
fictional-historical accounts place them as the original family to settle
the island, as well as unite the warring tribes. So, they've always been
the leading family. In reality, whatever family assumes the role as leader
of the Saalangal take the Talambe name as their public name, and keep
their true familial name in private (It is not known whether the house of
Talambe ever actually existed).
The main design consists of two wide blue bands, surrounding an inner,
thinner band, and a stylized representation of sharks teeth. These
designs are repeated on both sides of the flag, top and bottom. In the
middle are three stars, the blue one represents the sea. The green one
represents the lush paradise of the island, and the red star represents
the sky and the sun as it sets and rises. These designs are placed on a
white background.
You can see the design here:

The position the flag is in, is specifically for hanging from walls and
buildings.
