Not just any amount of time. In my experiance it must be at least a week
to be called just "vacation." Shorter than a week but longer than a day
gets
a time modifier (like "three-day vacation"), while a single free day is just
"the
day off." I'm sure this varies regionally. (I'm from new Jersy in NE US).
