According to the Ceridigion County Council web site, it's derived from the personal name Ceredig, a former (legendary?) prince of the area. So I suppose it would remain unchanged except for the -ion which would be replaced by a Romance analogue such as -IA > -i. -- John Cowan cowan@ccil.org One art/there is/no less/no more/All things/to do/with sparks/galore --Douglas Hofstadter
