Siyo!
My summer in England put me in an unusual position re:
accents. After just one month of assimilating
Liverpool/Wigan/Manchester accents, I no longer
sounded American to most of the Americans and
Englishmen I came across--with the staccato and the
lilt, they thought me either Northern Irish or Dutch.
Then I came back to the States (Midwest), and people
were totally enamored with my accent (that took four
months to mostly get rid of--it never totally went
away). They thought I sounded so sophisticated, even
though I had assimilated some of the most blue-collar
accents in England. Funny, innit?
Ta and cheers!
Clint
