Both. The major influences came (I think) from Balinese [1], Javanese [2],
Tibetan [3] and maybe also bits from Ahom [3] and Thai [4]. As for the last
one, this is what my parents said when they first saw my doodlings laying
around. I very much like those writing systems for their elegance.
