Certainly not, but when it comes to things like Atlantis, where whether
or not a factual basis is difficult, if not impossible, to determine,
what's it really matter whether there was a "real" Atlantis? If someone
did prove without a doubt that it was based on some particular
historical event, it would be quite interesting, but it makes a good
story, whether true or not.
Personally, I suspect it was mostly invented, tho Plato may have taken
inspiration from other mythical and/or historical events.
