Never into a conlang, but years back I used to use raw disk editing
software to change messages, colors and other things I didn't like
within software packages.  Back then (20+ years ago) it was much
easier.  At some point it became pointless as executables started
using CRC to verify the file hasn't been corrupted.  Your idea for
Linux and other open source software is very doable.  I noticed some
software already has Esperanto, Interlingua, Klingon and some others
already in the build.  Imagine how secure my system would be if all
the system messages were in Deini and written in the "native"
script.
