Yeah, it's usually called DC (two syllables version seven). The DC
distinguishes it from the State of Washington, like New York City means the
city, not the state.
DC is also called "the District". People who live there are called "District
trash", according to my fiancee, who lives in the Maryland suburbs right
now. The police is not the DCPD, but DC Metro.
