Technically the "alt" is supposed to be used when the images don't load.
[e.g.
in Opera you can read the alt text in the space the image goes before it
loads...].  It is supposed to be the text "alt"ernative to the image.

You probably want to use the "title" attribute instead, which I gather is made
for displaying auxiliary information like that.  [In Opera "title" text
appears
in the status bar and also in a tooltip.  IE just has the tooltip, same as for
"alt".  I dont know what Mozilla does.]
