Hmmm, foreign names in Obrenje... let's see... they'd attempt to copy
the original pronunciation, but people with scant linguistic background
would probably cast the names into the Obrenje phonology grid.
John --> Dzhon /dZOn/
Herman --> Ferman /hErm"an/
Roger --> Rodzer /rOdZ"Er/ or (French pronunciation) Rozee /rOZ"e:/
Mills --> Milce /"mIls/
The actual result depends on whether stress or accuracy of consonants is
deemed more important:
Miller --> Milre /"mIlr@/ or Miller /mIl:"Er/
The stress can only be on the ultimate or the penultimate syllable, so
in most cases foreign names won't be imported with stress intact. Few
languages seem to have word-final stresses for some reason.
