After being asked about my signature with Hangkerim proverbs, I would
propose as a translation exercise. This is part of the Book of Life
(R=FAm=EEh=EBp=FBng), one of the three sacred books of the Hangkerim reli=
gion
besides the Book of Miths (R=FAk=E1h=EBp=FBng) and the Book of Rites
(L=E1mz=EFh=EBp=FBng).
Standard uppercase romanisation
LU_HI/ZU\LAN_KU^RE~ PU_HI/ZU\LAN_YI~ME^RE~
LU_HI/ZU\LAN_KU^RE~ PU_HE/VU\LA_YI~ME^YI_HI/ZU\
Orthographic lowercase romanisation
Luh=EDz=F9langk=FBr=EB puh=EDz=F9langy=EFm=EAr=EB
Luh=EDz=F9langk=FBr=EB puh=E9v=F9lay=EFm=EAyih=EDz=F9
could be translated like:
It were that one is a leading/guiding/serving person, it is that one is
a happy person.
It were that one is a leading/guiding/serving person, it is that others
are happy because of one.
h=EDz=F9 =3D first person class: one
h=E9v=F9 =3D second person class: others
k=FBr=EB =3D a person who is leader, guide and server
y=EFm=EA =3D happiness
y=EFm=EAr=EB =3D happy person
lu...lang... =3D subjunctive
pu...lang... =3D indicative
pu...la...yi... =3D indicative
The concept of happiness (YI~ME^) includes internal peace and being one
with the universe, a more freely translation would be:
Being a leader will make you and the people around you happy.
The other proverb is not in any of the sacred books, but is also
commonly heard:
VE_CU^RE~RAN_KU^RE~
Vec=FBr=EBrangk=FBr=EB
There is not that a comanding person is a leading person
ve...rang: negative indicative
c=FB: to command, to give orders
c=FBr=EB: a person who commands, who gives orders
k=FBr=EB =3D a person who is leader, guide and server
free translation:
Commanding doesn't make you a leader.
