Neither is the Caucasus linguistically homogenous: there are three language
families found only in the Caucasus, plus at least two Indo-European
sub-families -- Armenian and Iranian, of which latter there are three
sub-sub-families represented, one of which is again confined to the
Caucasus. Then there are at least two Turkic languages as well. There
used to be speakers of Greek itI he area too, but I doubt any remain, since
most were evacuated to Greece early in this century in a volunteer
operation headed by internationally noted writer Nikos Kazantzakis.
BTW: wonder what the US authorities would say of a
Ukraino-Khazaro-Polono-Saxo-Vasco-Norvago-Gotho-Scandinavian (me)? :-)
